Additional Services Available: IMI offer the following supporting services supporting the cleaning of Cenotaphs:
Letters:
Painting/enameling of both raised and incised letters, usually in black but can be undertaken with any colour.
Gilding of letters in gold, using high quality gold leaf and outdoor size
Plaques/Bronzes/Statues:
- Re-enameling of bronze plaques,
- Microcrystalline wax application
- colouring of raised lettering
Stain Removal:
Leached contaminates from statues, plaques, screws and other metal fixings can be removed/reduced by the application of poultices which draw out the contaminates from the stone structure, multiple applications may be required.
Pointing:
This can be undertaken as and when required to replace mortar from joints of the cenotaph, only “Lime Mortar” is used as required by War Memorials Trust. The use of modern Portland mortar can cause irrevocable damage to the memorial.
Stone Repair:
A perminint repair or make good of any defects or cracks can be undertaken using specialist matchs the colour of the stone, making an invisable repair.
Wreath Fixing Chain:
A stainless steel or galvenised chain can be installed around the base of the memorial to secure Poppy Wreaths to during/after Rememberance Day, ensuring the wreaths stay in place. String or metal wire is commonly used, either breaking letting the wreaths blow away or the wire rusts staining the stone surface.
